Interview: Makeup By Jen Padro

I thought I would switch things up a bit and do an interview this week
with Baltimore Boss Babe Jen Padro.

And what better than an interview that also gives you

Makeup By Jen Padro was formed 3 years ago in Baltimore, MD.
Jen has been doing makeup since she could hold a brush!

In the below interview I go over what inspired Jen to create her business,
as well as
what type of makeup she loves, products she loves, and her new line

Q1: What inspired you to be a boss babe and create your company Makeup By Jen Padro?

Jen: Well, originally I started Makeup By Jen Padro because I was freelancing as a makeup artist. I was going to client's homes and doing their makeup, as well as in several different salons around Baltimore and in hotels/wedding venues. I was the key (lead) makeup artist for a few Fashion shows including Harbor East FashionEASTa 2015, Baltimore Fashion Week 2014, and the Mt. Washington Fashion Show 2014. I realized that I needed to have a website so that potential clients could see my work. Also, clients wanted to buy the lipgloss that I used so that they could touch up their lips during events (thus my lipgloss line was born). I also realized that I wanted to give each and every client my all and I can't do that by working under someone who may have time or other constraints.

Q2: What type of makeup would you call your specialty? What is your own personal style?

Jen: I would say that my makeup transcends all sorts of events. I can certainly do Halloween makeup or theatrical makeup. However, I focus on wedding makeup and that style which is "fresh and pretty type makeup". I take style influences from all over the world, but I consider mine to be a bit more French and also Korean since I lived there for a while. Very light, fresh, clean makeup. I live for dewy skin, fluttery lashes, and a sheer gloss. Otherwise known as a "Disney Princess" look.

Q3: What are your current favorite makeup products on the market?

Jen: I'm currently in love with Laura Mercier's Translucent Setting Powder as well as Kat Von D's Tattoo Eyeliner. For lips I would say my personal line of lipglosses are my favorite! Honestly, I still haven't found another line that has the major gloss shine without all of the stickiness.

Q4: And now you have a skincare line, Skincare by Jen Padro! Can you tell me about that?

Yes, so I started Skincare by Jen Padro because I was looking for a quality organic skincare line since I had a cancer scare last year. I wanted to use cleaner products on my body, but unfortunately when I started searching this type of product, I realized that many of these companies use artificial fragrances or artificial colorants in their products. That's when I started making my own batches of creams and experimenting with different formulas for my skin.
I came up with a body butter, a scrub, and handmade soaps.
Body butter for a non-time constraining luxury experience, scrub for a quick way to lose those dead cells while remaining hydrated and a handmade soap for a quick hydrating wash.
With all three products, I wanted to make sure that the oils that I was using were expeller pressed and not refined chemically. Many people don't think about this. So something can technically be natural but the way that the ingredients are refined can be with chemicals.
To me, this makes the product worthless.
So I strove to have all of my products be expeller pressed and naturally refined because that's the only way that i can consciously call my skincare natural and/or organic.

Q5: What are some of your newest products (or classics like gloss) that you might recommend as holiday gifts?

Jen: My newest product (that just debuted this week!) is my Organic Body Oil. I researched which body oils get absorbed into the skin and hydrate immediately. I found that Baobab Oil which I get from Senegal, Argan Oil from Morocco and Maracuja Oil from Peru are amazing for the body. The oil is light and gets instantly absorbed into the skin. It is great for anyone in a rush and for any skin type. I verified the method of extraction and made sure that it was all expeller pressed. I'm excited for it's debut this week!

Q6: Where is your business located and do you have an online store?

Jen: I still freelance so I can show up at your location. I also work out of Hair Envy & Co. in Lutherville, MD which is great because my clients can get their hair done as well before events! And yes, my online store can be found here

Loved this interview and learning about your products.
One more fun product for you are her holiday hats!

How cute are these?
We need them in every color!

See you all Monday!
